Review: My Coins.ph Experience

5:39 PM

I heard about coins.ph some time ago, but kept delaying getting an account because it deals in currency and since I didn't personally know anyone who was using it, I was kind of on the fence about it. In the end, though, their rebate offers became too good to pass on and I decided to go ahead and give them a try.

I signed up a couple of months ago. I wasn't able to take a screenshot of the process, but it's pretty straightforward.

There are verification levels for accounts.

If you want to test out their services first, Level 1 is perfectly fine, especially if you're just going to use coins.ph mostly for buying load or paying for one or more bills that don't amount to very high values. However, if you plan on using coins.ph to pay for almost all your bills and the P2,000 cash-in limit is not enough, you should consider going for Level 2 verification (ID and selfie verification).

Here's what the My Wallet page looks like.

At the lower part of this page, you can see your transaction history.

Coins.ph has an "Earn Rewards" page where you can easily see what you can do to earn rewards or rebates. Currently, these are their reward promos.

You can easily check your rewards history in the "Earnings" tab. As you can see, you get P10 for verifying your account.

CASH IN

There are many ways to add money to your coins.ph account. So far, I've only tried 7-11 since it's the most convenient for me.

For online bank transfer, the options are: BPI Express Online/Mobile, Security Bank Online, and Unionbank Online.

For over-the-counter banking, Unionbank is the only option.

For the remittance centers, your options are the following: Bayad Center, Cebuana Lhuillier Instant Cash, LBC Bills Xpress, and MLhuillier e-Pay.

The only options for Department Store Payment Centers are SM and Robinsons.

While there's a "Bank ATM Cash In" option listed, the "Next Step" button isn't clickable at the moment.

If you're in a hurry to top up your account, 7-11 is one of the best options for you.

For fast transactions, you can also try GCASH but only for amounts between P15 and P2,500.

This is what the page looks like after you click on "Next Step." Just input the amount you would like to cash in and you will see the coins.ph fee, payment method fee, and how much the total amount due is. According to coins.ph, "(The payment method fee) goes to our cash-in and cash-out partners as payment for their services.".

If you're using 7-11, it's best to keep the amount between P20 to P100 so there's no payment method fee.

For bigger amounts, especially those in the thousands, other payment methods (mostly the ones that make use of Dragonpay) are better if you can afford to wait for them to be processed because the total amount due tends to be lower. Below are some total amount computations so you can see for yourself. I haven't tried the methods using Dragonpay so I'm not sure if there are still problems or the transactions push through just fine now, despite the warning note.

CASH OUT

How about if you want to cash out? Here are your options. I haven't tried cashing out yet, though, so I can't give any feedback on these methods.

BUY LOAD

Now, on to buying load. It's very easy. Just click on the "Buy Load" icon, type your phone number, choose the amount of load you want, and click "Load Now." You'll be asked to confirm the transaction and you'll receive your load and a confirmation text just a few seconds later.

PAY BILLS

Paying bills is also possible through coins.ph. This is what the "Pay Bills" page looks like.

These are the kinds of bills you can pay via coins.ph.

When I was still thinking of joining coins.ph, I probably would have joined faster had I known that majority of the companies we use at home accept payment through this site. For anyone who is curious about which companies' bills you can pay via coins.ph, I have listed them below. This list is accurate as of time of posting.
